¿Cómo pueden ustedes celebrarlo? El establecimiento del estado de Israel hace sesenta años fue un proyecto colonial que sistemáticamente y de manera violenta expulso a más de 750 mil árabes palestinos de su tierra y sus hogares. Hace 60 años las milicias sionistas saquearon las propiedades palestinas y destruyeron cientos de pueblos palestinos. ¿Cómo puede personas con conciencia celebrar esta catástrofe?

Israel lleva 60 años negando a los refugiados palestinos el derecho al retorno declarado por Naciones Unidas para volver a sus hogares y recibir una compensación, simplemente porque son “no judíos”. Israel continúa ocupando ilegalmente Palestina y otras tierras árabes, violando numerosas resoluciones de Naciones Unidas. Israel persiste en su negación de derechos humanos fundamentales a la población palestina, contraviniendo el Derecho Internacional Humanitario y de la Declaración de Derechos Humanos. Mantiene sujeta a la población palestina a un sistema de discriminación institucional, con fuertes reminiscencias con el difunto régimen del Apartheid en Sudáfrica. Además Israel consigue salir impune de todo esto, gracias a la ilimitada inmunidad sin precedentes y la generosa ayuda económica, diplomática, política y académica otorgada por EEUU y Europa.

En vista de esta opresión con múltiples caras que es la realidad de Israel hoy, estimamos que cualquier participación árabe e internacional, individual o institucional, en cualquier actividad que contribuya directa o indirectamente con las celebraciones del 60 aniversario del Estado de Israel, como complicidad con la perpetuación de la desposesión y el desarraigo de los refugiados, la prolongación de la ocupación y la profundización del Apartheid israelí. La invitación a Israel como “huésped de honor” a las ferias del libro de Turín y París, por ejemplo es no solo una traición deliberada a los principios básicos de los derechos humanos, que están ligados con las propias leyes de la Unión Europea, pero es también una tentativa deliberada para encubrir los crímenes de guerra israelíes contra la población árabe, especialmente sus crímenes de guerra en Líbano y Palestina, y el paulatino genocidio contra un millón y medio de palestinos asediados y colectivamente castigados en la Franja de Gaza. En resumen, celebrar el 60 aniversario de Israel equivale a bailar sobre las tumbas de la población palestina.

Impulsamos a sociedad civil internacional con todos sus miembros, particularmente instituciones y personas que trabajan en el instituciones artísticas, académicas, deportivas,  sindicatos, y las comunidades religiosas a boicotear el 60 aniversario de Israel, dondequiera que acontezcan en todo el mundo. Estas celebraciones, por definición, insultan nuestra historia, violan nuestros derechos y profundizan nuestra opresión. También hacen inútil el camino de la  justicia, la libertad, la igualdad, y una paz justa y duradera basada en el derecho internacional.
