Hermano@s:

Today, 14th of June 2006, at 5 am the army, anti-riot police and have entered the centre of the city of Oaxaca, capital of the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, with around 3,000 officers, where schoolteachers members of organizations and unions (such as Seccion XXII, CNTE, Pormodora Estatal por la Unidad Contra el Neoliberalismo, FSODO (frente de sindacados y Organisaciones de Oaxaca, and other independent organizations, as well as supporters of  "La Otra Campaña") have been camping for 23 days, since thew 18th of may 2006, in a peaceful demonstration.
At 5.05 am, The police forces and the army, armed with guns and tear gas, have moved towards the camp, from different directions, mainly from the from the south part of the city, and have began to throw tear gas and indiscriminately beat men, women (some pregnant), children and elderly. Numerous teachers have been detained and taken away with vehicles without plates, reason for which they are at the moment considered as "desaparecidos".
At 5.15 Radio Planton (the radio of the camped demonstration) declared the armed forces had entered the building of Seccion XXII, from where they have been transmitting. Meanwhile, on air it was possible to listen to shootings of guns and tear gas. After about 5 minutes, the programme was interrupted. It was later confirmed that the police and the army forces had dismantled the radio equipment.
At 6.10 am the repression still continues against the demonstrating teachers, who are being beaten and robbed of their possessions. Any vehicle that is found in the way of the armed forces is being shoot with tear gas.
This is all happening whilst in the local television and radio channels the Governement keeps asserting that the all situation, and the demands of the teachers are being resolved through open dialogue and mutual agreements.
As understood the schoolteacher of Oaxaca have began a day of peaceful struggle and demonstration to demand recognition of their rightful requests of fair wages and better educational, as well as general social conditions, for their communities.
We hold the government responsible for physical integrity of all our teachers.
Furthermore, we ask to all social organizations, independent medias, Human Rights organizations, and to the general public to spread the word about the current situation, to send letters to the following addresses in order to denounce this repression.
