TO THE GOOD HEARTS OF THE WORLD

TO HONEST MEDIA
Oaxaca de Juárez, Oax., March 29,
2005.
Sisters and Brothers:
A few hours ago, the prison bars opened by the strength of reason justice,
for only two of the many political prisoners that exist and still remain
in the prisons of the state of Oaxaca
For more than six months, the repressive and illegitimate government held
us captive. On September 14, 2004, José Murat sent more than 100
well-armed police who struck us and took us away from the sit-in which we
maintained in front of the palace of government; demanding a solution to
the problems of the communities of the CIPO-RFM; struck, and with the approval
of the State Commission of Human Rights they arrested us. They invented
crimes in violation of the rights of the 14 of us: 6 women and 8 men, and
they jailed us; instead of presenting evidence with photographs, videos
and over all, the bruises on our bodies, is to say, after proving that we
were attacked and our rights were violated, that there was abuse of authority
and that our only crime is asking for justice to those who had the obligation
to give an answer for persecution, harassment and death threats against
the members and representatives of the CIPO-RFM and it at no time was dialogue,
even though civil society asked that he attend to the peoples’ demands,
Murat denied doing it and still more, having imposed Ulises Ruiz Ortiz on
the Oaxacan people, repression on social organizations and PRI-ist and non-PRI-ist
communities, it has been the daily bread
since December 1st, the day on which he took power, which proves his fascist
attitude.
Ulises Ruiz as a dictator has imposed his
will since planting fear and anxiety: persecution and imprisonment of the
members and representatives of social organizations with prefabricated crimes,
biased application of the law, violation of human rights,
defamation and discredit of all social organization across government-controlled
media have been the answers to the demand for a solution of land conflicts,
of juscitce, and health, education, roads employment that the communities
ask for. Today in the state of Oaxaca we can say that justice does not exist,
for us the political prisoners they have already withered away 196 days
of our life, they withered away our children, siblings, parents, partners,
our community, our comrades, our work, they have condemned us again to precariousness,
without even having commited any crime they have imposed very
high costs on our savings , they condemned our loved ones to the pain and
desperation of seeing us behind bars, of seeing us as horrible wrongdoers
and above all to the anguish of being at the mercy of the mafias that the
prison administrators have, they have subjected us to a constant psychological
torture of harrassment and fear in prison, they have affected our
health by the worthless medical attention.
We, the ex-political prisoners whose lives they have wanted to wither away
in prison, we who have suffered on our own skin the hard hand of the illegitimate
government of Oaxaca, Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, today we come before those that
do not like injustice and who want
to listen to us, we come before you all with that which the bars and the
tall grey walls of the
horrendous prisons have not been able to take away from us in these long
months: the hope that each and every one of us not allow more injustice,
that we not allow more pain and sadness that today we be one voice so that
there are no more political prisoners, so that
today Ulises Ruiz listens and attends with justice to the problems of Oaxacans
without seeing the color of money or power.
Today we leave prison, and we did it because included in the courts, (also
to the service of the government for certain) we proved our innocence, because
they couldn’t play any more “legal” tricks on us. But
also today more brothers and sisters in prison like Margarita García
García and Habacuc Cruz Cruz as well as many more not only in Oaxaca
but in the whole world.
The state of siege in which we live today in Oaxaca, hidden from “state
of rights”, can no longer hide the illegitimacy and weakness of this
fascist government. This reality is transcending to a national and international
level and human rights defense organs such as Amnesty International and
the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, have been corroborating the human
rights violations.
The results of this repressive policy are in the public light the people
no longer believe in the laws because they use them to cover up corrupt
functionaries, or to make the bosses rich as is the case of the NEO-HACENDADOS
of the historical center to whom governor gave the palace of government
as if it was his own property.
We call on civil society to defend the constitutional guarantees to not
allow more abuses, to organize discontent while they repress our right to
free demonstration, the fundamental problems of different sectors of this
State will continue to increase.
