Blue Rose Day School

The Blue Rose Special
School and Training Centre is a school for mentally handicapped children.
There are around 25 children of different age groups. This is a day school
where the children are brought to the school in the morning and taken back
home in the afternoon. In addition to normal learning activities there
are vocational training programmes,dancing & music classes and play-
schemes.This school is formed as a long term project of SCI Sri Lanka and
now being managed by Blue Rose Welfare Society. During the in-country orientation
and the first work camp volunteers will stay in this school . Volunteers
are most welcome to take part in the activities of the school and the training
center and to interact with the students
Work: It
will be light work that includes cleaning the school compound, playground,
classrooms etc.
Extra:
The camp is part of a 5 weeks programme that vols coming to Sri Lanka are
required to follow. 100 $ participation fee

Nillamba
-
Nillamba is a place
surrounded by mountains in the central part of Sri Lanka about 15 kms away
from the city of Kandy. People of all ethnic groups Sinhalese, Tamils and
Muslims live here. Most of them are farmers and tea plantation workers.
SCI-Sri Lanka has taken up a programme to re-forest the water catchment
areas around Nillamba in order to reserve water for power generation. This
programme has been designed in co-operation with the local community, schools
of the area and the government’s representatives.
Work: Tree
Planting and Beautification of school environment
Accommodation:
Volunteers will be accommodated at a school building here during the camp
period.

Batticoloa

SCI Sri Lanka has
been organizing work camps in the South and the war-affected North and
East parts of the country in order to bring in understanding between the
people and promote national integrity. Under this programme Tamil youths
in the North and East of Sri Lanka are brought to the South and let engage
in community works with Sinhala youths and vice versa.
Work: Community
work that would include mending a community center/cutting a road and/or
environment related work at war-affected areas
