The European Commission intends to approve this week a draft directive that would extend up to 18 weeks maternity leave.
The Platform for Equal and No-transferible parental leave (PPIINA) recalled:
Inequality between maternity and paternity leave reflects the thought that it is women who must give priority care. It is therefore a remnant from the past that does not reflect the values adopted today by the society.
Denounced the inconsistency of the European Commission, which calls for equality at the same time taking steps to the contrary. How can we hold responsibility to the men if they are not granted social rights exercised? Do not deprive the baby of the care of their parents!
Also denounced the fallacious argument of the European Commission, which shocked by the difference between occupancy rate male and female, in favor of men (and about time!), Proposes measures like this that discourage the hiring of women of childbearing Fertil. All studies on occupancy rate and parental leave (including the EC) dismantled guess this is full of prejudices.
Once both parents have equal and non-transferable leave, these leaves could be increased in a unison. Meanwhile, Mother would increase further exacerbate the differences.
PPIINA promotes a legislative reform that:
- Set maternity/paternity leave should be granted to each parent so that they are no – transferable, of equal duration and with the same mandatory days.
- Specify the necessary transitional measures to progressively increase the paternity leave (or ‘other parent’) to arrive within a reasonable time to equality, starting immediately establish six weeks MANDATORY FOR PARENTS (men) (which is the mandatory days for mothers)
This reform is economically affordable and is a very profitable investment to end the current wastage of human capital of women and the attendant potential for men.
