ACTIVITIES IN SPAIN Seminar on Intercultural Education      The Seminar on Intercultural Education will take place concurrently  with the II International  Seminar of Education for Peace  from July  3-13, in Spain and  dedicated  to the NGOs  working  on  this  field. The main objectives are:    Understand Intercultural Education as an agent of change to achieve tolerant and sensitive attitudes, having as a point of reference, social justice based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and on the Convention on the Rights of the Child  To expand the practicla application of the Convention on the Rights of the Child within the educational realm.  Offer  the participating educators new focal points for Intercultural Education.  Exchange educational experiences and didactic materials on Intercultural Education that are succeding in Spain and the Mediterranean region (through the Network).  Introduce and invite participants in the Seminar to the Permanent  Network of Education for Peace.    Bridge of Cultures 97  Mohedas de la Jara (Toledo, Spain)    Bridge of Cultures 98    The meeting of Bridge of Cultures 98 will take place September 14-24. Youth from the Mediterranean area as well as residents of Spain will participate. The principle objetives of this program are:      Consolidate an educational program that favors the sensitization within the · youth of the Mediterranean region, on the value of solidarity and communication between different cultures as a means of development.  Replace xenophobic and racist attitudes produced in conuntries of the North against citizens of the South, with tolerant and respectful ones.  Become familiar with the characteristics of the many cultures that co-exist harmoniously in the Mediterranean.  To state explicitly specific actions to be taken to realize Education for Peace and the International Intercultural Education in the Mediterranean.  Intensify the value of the environment and common characteristics of the Mediterranean ecosystem, and promote them as a thrust behind human development.  Validate and emphasize the importance of  cultural diversity.

Nationals Training Activities With the program, Peace in the Mediterranean, it is  hoped that the participants of the  network promote training activities  in their respective places of origin, so as to assure a  multiplicator effect.          Youth Activities In the framework of the program, we would also like to stimulate youth activities.   Once the Network is consolidated, we will begin the realizationof youth activities of an  international character in which they can take advantage of the possibilities that the program  ofers (previous work, follow through, and update).
