Network
Network in which
National Committees and Field Offices of UNICEF, National
Associations of Scouts of the Nostrum group, NGOs
of the Mediterranean region and professionals
connected with Education for Peace will be able to participate, within
the context of the Education for Development.
Training
The training of the
monitors and educators presents itself as a basic strategy
at the time of
work on Education for Peace. A theoric and practical
review of the latest trends in this area
from the different perspectives of the Mediterranean
region will supply us with a global
vision of terdependence.

EDUCATION
FOR PEACE NETWORK
After the
First International Seminar, celebrated in Mohedas de la Jara (Toledo)
in 1997, the objectives of the
network were agreed upon by representatives from the majority of
the Mediterranean countries. The fundamental
objectives are represented in the following points:

1) Optimize exchange
of communication and information regarding Education for Peace in the
Mediterranean
(educative experiences, projects, activities, etc.) between the people
of the network engaged
in the project.

2) Serve as an
environment for the identification and selection of the aspects most relevantly
related to the
Mediterranean basin.
-
3) Compile, elaborate
and distribute different materials regarding Education for Peace generated
in the mediterranean region.
-
4) Optimize the
preparation and continuation of the different activities proposed in the
network.
-
5) Favor the development
of transnational educational for children and juveniles projects.
-
6) Identify interested
persons and economic resources in order to develop an action plan for Education
for Peace in the
Mediterranean.
The communication
of the network will be realized in the most practical form possible, adapting
to the different
situations of participants. Nevertheless, we believe that it will be interesting
to make an effort to communicate through electronic mail and internet,
at the disposal of a web page. For it, a web page is being
created that will
be actualized periodically for the Secretary of the Network.
Furthermore,
this newsletter will be distributed on a trimestral basis and it will include
the most important happenings
and events that are generated.
II
International Seminar
of
Education for Peace
From
July 3-13, the II International Seminar of Education for Peace will be
held in Spain, joining 65 monitors from the entire Mediterranean region.
The objectives
that we would like to reach are:

To see Education
for Peace as a motive of change whose ultimate purpose is social justice,
based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on
the Rights of the Child.
-
To analyze the
reality of the Mediterranean region, considering political, social, cultural
and economic factors that intervene in the human and social development
of the countries of the North as well as those of the South.
-
To expand the
practiced application of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
-
To train the participating
monitors on the proper techniques of Education for Peace.
-
To exchange educational
experiences and didactic materials on Education for Peace that are succeeding
in the Mediterranean region.
-
To invite and
engage the participants in the Seminar to the Permanent Network of Education
for Peace.
It is considered
necessary for the adaptation to the different socio-cultural realities,
but also a global task is also interesting for other reasons. Therefore,
action is necessary at a local (national) and international level.
