MUJERES DE NEGRO
POR LA PAZ
EN MINDANAO (FILIPINAS)

Las compañeras de  WLUML (Mujeres viviendo bajo leyes musulmanas) nos han hecho llegar una nota (junio - 2000) anunciando la creación en la ciudad de Davao en Mindanao (Filipinas) de un grupo de mujeres (musulmanas y cristianas) denominado Mujeres de Negro por la Paz que desde el pasado 30 de mayo han comenzado a manifestarse cada día de 12 a 13 horas del mediodía en diferentes lugares de la ciudad para pedir el final de la guerra y las hostilidades.

Mindanao es una de las islas más importantes del archipiélago filipino donde desde hace varias décadas se producen enfrentamientos entre el movimiento independentista del Frente Moro de Liberación Nacional y las fuerzas gubernamentales. Firmaron un acuerdo de paz en 1993 pero de poco ha servido.

"40 DÍAS DE TRANQUILIDAD"

Las ONGs apoyadas por la sociedad civil han iniciado una campaña para pedir "40 días de tranquilidad", para ocuparse de la muerte, para llorar y reflexionar, -dicen en la nota que nos han mandado- y la han presentado al Presidente Filipino Estrada, que ha rechazado la propuesta.

Piden a nivel internacional APOYO a la campaña enviando cartas de petición a las autoridades filipinas cuyas direcciones encontrareis al final de la pequeña versión en ingles que sigue a continuación.

Greetings of peace from war  torn Mindanao! War broke out in Mindanao last April 28. Since then we have been caught in a series of NGO meetings to respond to the un peace in our midst. It  is sad that there is war in Mindanao anew. The women ( Muslims and Christians  ) of Davao City have formed into a group called Women in White for Peace  and every day ( at 12:00 to 1:00 noon for forty days starting last May 30)  we rally in different parts of the city to call for an end to the war  and hostilities.

We, in the NGO community in partnership with a wide  section of civil society have made representations with President Estrada  regarding a call for 40 days of tranquility - to bury the dead, to mourn and  to reflect- but the President has since rejected our call. The war is escalating everyday and is affecting our development work.

So, please  send us a statement of support regarding Mindanao's situation.
